Without looking at the paper (yet), I would guess that the type series of G. ridens consists of more than one species. It is not inconceivable that the paratypes of G. ridens from Sarawak are not conspecific with the holotype (56–78 scales seems an unusually high variation and one would suspect that there is more than a single species involved).
