I have been cutting 1/4" x 1/4" pieces of cucumber and poking a toothpick through them and down into the substrate to secure them to the bottom but they don't seem to be interested in it. how do you guys prepare cucumber for your loaches, how big of a piece? how do you secure it to the bottom? how long do you leave in the tank before removing whats not eaten?

While I think the method is OK - but you could also just take a piece of whole cucumber (4 or 5 cm, that's 2 inches long) and stick a cheap fork through it in order to have it sinking.

I think the problem is doyo rather eats meaty things.

I use a screwcumber. It is rounded with no sharp edges, made of stainless steel so is corrosion resistant and heavy and resembles a spring. It can be screwed into cucumber, courgette/zucchini etc. Recommended.

I've poked a hole into the veg (any) & wedged in a bit of wafer or pellet food in the hole. As the loaches eat the pellet/wafer they get a bit of the veggie & learn to eat the veg too. Try it!
