been gone a long time... 2007...

Post by Erik » Wed Nov 13, 2019 12:31 am

Kinda left this forum after my pride and joy , 70g rainbow and loach planted tank had a catastrophic accident in 2007 while away on a weekend. It was co2 malfunction.Lost 5 clowns, 6 yoyo, 4 striata, 4 histrionica and 13 praecox ,nearly barfed I was so mad..
I still had a small 15 g tank running during that time which inherited the canister filter c02 etc.
It had been replaced with a 16 g bent glass corner tank, led lighting etc.
It's small scale rainbow /loach tank.
Praecox rainbows, and botia kubotai..
Nice to see the forum ticking along..

As you say Erik, sickening. I'm so lucky that I haven't yet had such a catastrophe and have had my Clowns for 25 years.

I joined this forum in 2010 after Emma Turner had implemented a revolution for Loach keeping by explaining the issues and writing in Practical Fishkeeping etc. Suddenly we loners had some friends to converse with and some guidelines to repeat which were accurate and sensible.

This forum has virtually died off as the old members have left having done their job. However, thankfully there is now much more social media activity and people with wonderful setups post on Facebook etc.

e.g. https://www.facebook.com/groups/139544712868942/

So much progress has been made and the future is bright for Loach keeping.

Yes I was completely heartbroken, and now a lot of change, aquariums stores are few and far between as far ones with loaches to purchase.
I remeber the days when we were figuring out that most loaches had parasites and figuring out treatments with levamisole etc AND the loach book that was printed, I was lucky to get some of my photos into that . Now I need to find my copy...I'd forgotten about that book..

Yes fewer stores with Loaches, but fewer stores to tell me I only need a 3ft aquarium for Clown Loaches and you only really need 1 for snail eating duties! Forums soon put people on the right path, though a few myths persist.

Wow! That’s a gorgeous tank!
And thank you for any effort in educating on how to keep loaches. We new loach owners are most appreciative!
