Sewellia sp. Spotted Male/Female?

Post by Mike4912 » Tue Mar 29, 2022 5:15 pm

Hi everyone!

To start, I'm fairly new to the world of hillsrream loaches and they're already my favorites. I managed to grab two Sewellia spotted from my LFS but haven't had any success in finding more. I've seen a few posts/pictures for males and females but I'm still not 100% in judging. I would greatly appreciate a confirmation :D . I'm assuming these two that I have are two females?

I'm not sure Mike. The first looks female to me, the second is iffier. I only have s. lineolata so not an expert in any way on other sewellia or hillies in general. What size are they?

You might try joining loach fanatics on Facebook. There's a lot more traffic there these days but you have to wait to be approved (only a few days)

I would say it looks female from the pics. The pectoral fins don't form enough of a "shoulder".
You can also see from this guide that it looks more like a female too.
