Burmese loach size - Botia kubotai

What's the biggest burmese loach you've ever seen? I have three burmese loaches about 2" for a few months and they don't seems to be growing at all.I think they are suppose to grow up to 5"?

Kubotai grow very slowly. I had a pair that I got as little bitty guys and even after 2 years they hadn't grown more than 1/2 to 1 inch. I've seen a couple of the big 5" adults and I imagine they would be no less than 5-10 years old to have reached that size.

my kubotai/histrionica (still in debate) have grown .5" in the past year.

My 3 kubotai were around 1.5 inches 3 years ago. Now they are about 2 inches. They have never lived in less than a 120 gallon tank, yet the histrionicas have grown right on by them in a few months and are now about 2.5 inches. Strange.

I've had one for about 6 months, he's grown from about 2 inches to about 3. I never really measured him, but he's noticably grown in that time.

I got some histies and kubs at about the same time in the last 6-8 months and the histies have grown faster than the kubs.
My full grown kubs are at about 4.5 inches. I have seen one at least 5.5 inches though.

I must agree with Martin , the Histie's do grow quickly , wheras the Kobotei are slow , i've noticed a lot of large Histie's for sale recently , for quite high prices ! i cant really see the point , as they are quite easy to grow .

I purchesed a few loaches from the LFS yesterday 2/24/08. They didn't know what species they were and neither did I. They had a few different species of Botia available. I bought two (sold to me as Histi's) Kubotai. I learned this from searching this site and I want to thank everyone for providing me this awsome reference! The LFS also had about a half dozen Histi's (That I now know from searching this site) and I'm going back tomorrow to get them as the LFS don't know what they are! Thanks so much everyone for providing this reference that fishkeepers so dearly need if they're interested in knowing what they own!

I got the Kubotai for $8.00 a piece! I'm happy now that I know what they are....We'll see what I get the Histi's for....

tell them the histi's are a pretty common fish you might get them for a song bud. :lol:

one is 5 inches, one 3.5 inches, one 2.5-3 inches

almost a year has passed since I typed this.
my new kubs have hardly grown at all.
some of the histies have not grown as well.
However one histronica is now huge and almost the same size as my largest striata (4ish inches).
My mature kub is also still growning slowly after owning it for four years and it was at least 4" then.

I bought a loach out of a kub tank that looked more like a rostata. Really hard to tell what it is but it is growing quickly.
