Lepidocephalus/Lepidocephalichthys Find!

Here's a interesting find. These chaps are apparently from India. Size wise would be around 1 inch TL. From a distance they looked like a Cobitis sp but no. Then i thought of juvenile Lepidocephalichthys guntea but i remember when my first batch of Lepidocephalichthys guntea which where the same size and never held the black line along the flanks so boldly. And also the black markings never entered into the Caudal fin like in these little chaps.

And to think I can only find clowns a rare yo-yo. Don't know how you keep finding such interesting fish. I'll continue to sigh with your every picture. I'm enjoying them vicariously so keep posting.

Hey Mark! They are at Tom's place along with some lovely Barilius canarensis and theTrue Puntius mahecola!! Man these are beautiful looking barbs! Plus he has some lovely Garra bicornuta. I walked away with some Barilius canarensis and some Rasbora caudimaculata.

Nice one Graeme, I think I will have to have a look up at Tom's place soon. I managed to get myself 7 Rasbora caudimaculata last week as well as a Rasbora Myersi which had come in with them as a conaminant

I also managed to pick up 6 very nice Puntius everetti and 6 very possible Pangio myersi, I was going to get a couple of photo's of the Pangio's but with one thing and another I didnt get chance and I have only had glimpses of them since they went in the tank

I must admit i was tempted with Craig's Puntius everetti. Those Rasbora Myersi are lovely fish also!

I think we might have a possible Lepidocephalichthys cf guntea here on our hands. I know these chaps are wide spread across Asia and some reports are known with Lepidocephalichthys guntea holding more differences. Here's a picture from Andrew (channaamphibius) showing a interesting Lepidocephalichthys, with a possibility of it being a Lepidocephalichthys guntea. It also could be a new species.

For now i might call them the Lepidocephalichthys cf guntea.

I agree! And we know that this loach has been found in a new habitat close to other newly discovered species.

Has anyone got any of these still going in their tanks?

If so could we have a photo of them now please, especially the pectoral fin of any males (to see the laminar circularis - the modified fin rays)

Can anyone remember where in India they were supposed to have been caught?

In case it helps, specimens for the trade are currently collected from the Ichamati.

Are they the same ones as these though with the distinct stripe through them? Do you have any pics and any specimens?
