Re: My clown loaches

Hi tonzz,

I had Discus and Clown loaches for more than one year with no isues at all, but have to confess that about four years ago I tryied to put a Betta splendens within the Clowns and there were a little bothering so I move the Betta out the tank.

If your Angel fish is not too small there is a good chance the Clown loach will not mess him.

My new 1000 liters clown loaches tank

Post by Marcos Mataratzis » Tue Aug 30, 2011 11:40 pm

Guess everybody here knows my wish for a tank upgrade. I got it! :P

I used my july school vacations to start upgrading my living room and varanda to fit my new dreamed tank: 250x75x55cm.

First thing to do was to remove varanda´s doors to apply new floor (same as living room):
Image

Raising concrete walls to sustain the 1,5 ton tank:
Image
Image

Hard wooden sticks to acomodate a bed for the tank:
Image

Concerned about the minimum possibility of the concrete walls do not bear out the weigh I ordered extra 8 wooden feet for confortable nights of sleep without asking myself "will it hold out or not?":
Image

New ilumination to my living room was added to the project:
Image
Image
Image

The wooden bed for the tank is made of 15mm naval wood. Also decided to use granite as outside work:
Image
Image

The wall behind the tank recieved an yellow texture:

Now, time for tank mounting. Not all the glasses fit the elevator of my building:
Image
Image

Bigger one got here by stairs:
Image
Image

With the glasses inside my home the mounting started:
Image

Mounting was not the worse thing. Making holes on the glass for sump pipes was the challenge:
Image
Image

My two cats (Pepe and Sheldon) where the first to try the new tank:
Image

The glassman also got inside it before glass reinforcements were applyied:
Image

Glass reinforcements all around, up and down:
Image

To drag away my old 450 liter tank with all fishes inside was not an easy deal. I lower water down to 20% and 4 men was needed to drag it to another wall that I order to be painted in "Yellow Clown Loach" color.

Varanda´s graded window was taken off...

For a new window pane:

225 litrer sump:

almost there...

Louver boards installed, glass doors bellow tank installed and new lighst on:

150 Kg of natural river gravel set up and filtration running:

Detail on tank glass borders:

Logo from tank designer and manufacturer (Gurupy & MundoSub):

Me, proud of my new tank:

Tank lights are not installed yet. They are under construction, but will be made of 6x5 Watts Super Leds. 3 cool white and 3 warm white (yellowish) to be turned on separate to simulate sunrise and sunset.

For now, that´s it. Let´s review tank setup:

12mm glass: 250x75x55cm (lengthxwidthxheigh) = 1.031 liters
Sump: 90x50x50cm = 225 liters
Sump water return pump: Via Aqua 4900 (5000 Liters/hour)
Circulating pumps: Koralia-3 (3200 Liters/hour) and Koralia-4 (5600 Liters/hour)
150 Kg river gravel
Lots of wood and rocks
Plants: 15 giant Anubia
Starting date: 28/08/2011

As soon as tank lights are set up I´ll post again with new photos.

Hope you like it!

That. Is. Amazing. I can't wait to see it completed.

Hey,

I didn´t do it by myself. There where calculations made by an engineer. According to him, my living room structure can handle up to 3,5 ton.

Light system is set up. It consists of 6x5Watt super leds, 3 yellowish, 3 white.

First, a photo showing my 200 liter tank and new one:
Image

Now 1000 liter tank with new lights on:
Image

Super leds in detail:
Image

Two row of lights. Yellow ones (3000K) back, white ones (6000K) in the center:
Image

Tank as seen from one side, showing the effect of the lights:
Image

Those two row of lights will turn on and off separately, controled by timers. First, the yellow ones, to look like a sunrise. One our later white ones. By the end of the day the white ones are turned off and an hour later will happen same to yellow ones, looking like a sunset:

Looks lovely, love the puddles of light.

"There where calculations made by an engineer. According to him, my living room structure can handle up to 3,5 ton." Does that mean that you are planning a still larger tank>??

Unfortunately, there´s no room for a larger tank on my living room. I think this will be the biggest one I can have here.
