Just thought I'd post an update on how my group of Sids are doing.

The first blurry photo is of two (males?) side swipping each other, very similar to what cichlids do, and they tend to change colour and go all bronze. The second, is a rare shot of Big Bertha staying still long enough for me to take the shot. (Her?) colours are usually much darker, rich black on cream, but the flash has washed her out a little. Though I did pick up the gold highlights aroung the head area

Well, I never did get them to feed on Hikari Pellets. So I ended up fattening them on frozen bloodworms. I've found them to be slow eaters, picking at food and then spitting it out again several times before deciding to actually eat it, which pretty much means a tank to themselves. I've found that the presence of much larger fish really intimidates them.
Of the 20 I started out with, one mysteriously died, cause unknown. Another went the same way after wasting away from not eating. But those that remain have bulked up and have settled in well, but they no longer school tightly as they once did when first introduced. I got a few really small and skinny fish within the group, but they happily have eaten well and have filled out.
At the moment they're still in a 2ft tank, but plans are in the works for a proper home for them. These fish are the best!! I'm planning to get a couple dozen more, and have a good crack at breeding these beauties.
