Here's just a few in no particular order:
Planet of the Apes: The original from '68. How can you beat that Rod Serling penned ending.
Alien and Aliens
The Shawshank Redemption
The Green Mile
The Third Man
The Indiana Jones trilogy
Witness: Another Harrison Ford gem. The barn raising scene is fantastic as is the musical score
The Manchurian Candidate: The original from the early '60's. One of my favorite movies and a real period film. Everyone smokes!
The Birds: A great one by Hitchcock as well as another period film. Almost everyone smokes in this one too.
Shane: The scenery is gorgeous!! Probably the most realistic western in many respects. The "gunfighter escaping his past" story has been done many times but never this well.
Rear Window: Another great Hitchcock film
Psycho: Showering will never be the same.
The Hunt for Red October: A great submarine film
Hoosiers: A great sports movie and underdog tale. I am a bit biased on this one being a Hoosier. I was in the Hickory home gym a couple of weeks ago.
Breaking Away: A great "coming of age" film that was filmed and is set, in Bloomington, Indiana.
Star Wars Episodes 4, 5 and 6. The original films are just fun to watch.
If you like Star Trek, the Wrath of Khan (#2), The Undiscovered Country (#6) and First Contact (#8) are the best IMHO.
The Lord of the Rings trilogy
There are more...I just can't think of them right now.
