Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
Amazing odyssey! Stunning colors.
additional information of Stiphodon
Hi plaalye!
The female flattened the abdomen which swelled out after this and appeared, but I wasn't able to watch the male figure for a few days.
Because my water tank is the jungle of the waterweed, I don't know the place of the nest in the male. Unfortunately I haven't confirmed the figure of the fry so far either.
There is additional information further.
Site where you can see pictures of Stiphodon niraikanaiensis that was published at the end of last year as a new species appeared on the Internet.
A detailed description on the ecology of Stiphodon also have written on that site.

The video of the breeding action of Stiphodon multisquamus to appear in the article mentioned above is already uploaded in Youtube.

Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
On another forum someone reported seeing Lentipes Armatus in a shop. I highly doubt that it is indeed this species but gave some advice regardless.
2 questions though.
1. http://www.wdc-jp.biz/pdf_store/isj/pub ... /26105.pdf states that it is an algae and aufwuchs grazer, is this correct?
2. Approximately what temperature are those streams where you saw them?

Marriage action of the pair of S.atropurpureus
Hi wijnands!
I am sorry that a reply is late.
Q1. states that it is an algae and aufwuchs grazer, is this correct?
A1. I've been keeping Lentipes and Sicyopus genus for a long time. But I never watched that they grazed algae.
I think that Lentipes and Sicyopus genus are warm-eater.
Q2. Approximately what temperature are those streams where you saw them?
A1. It changes by a season. The water temperature becomes around 30 in midsummer.
Okinawa(southernmost part of Japan) is subtropical climate, but the temperature considerably falls during winter.
During winter, the water temperature of the river becomes less than 20 degrees Celsius.
So most of the gobies which came from the tropics cannot survive.
Hi jlorenzo!
About a breeding parameter of Stiphodon, I listed it in this thread before. So, please refer to that one.

Though it was several months ago, but I show pictures of the marriage action of the pair of S.atropurpureus kept with my water tank.

Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
Hi wijnands!
Then, I have to correct the former opinion.
He said that Lentipes Armatus which inhabited Okinawa in Japan did algae grazing.
It seems to have a tooth for the algae grazing that resembled Stiphodon genus.
Two pieces of following photos are wild Lentipes Armatus which I photographed in a river of Okinawa.
Although I had photoed Lentipes Armatus of Okinawa in fact, I have not kept them.
Following two Lentipes are that I have kept, purchased from a aquarium shop. I don't know whether the two of them are same species as Lentipes Armatus of Okinawa.
I never watched that they grazed algae.
I received new information from an expert about their eating habit.odyssey wrote: Q1. states that it is an algae and aufwuchs grazer, is this correct?

Goby Pedia
Goby Pedia
The splendid book of the fresh water goby was published recently.
The writer presented the book to me.
It's a great book at all.
I think this is the best in the world today as a book of freshwater goby fish .
You can see more than 200 species of freshwater and brackish water goby from photos in this book.
There are more than 1500 extraordinary goby pictures in the book.
Though the commentary is Taiwanese, you may be surely satisfied if you watch enormous beautiful pictures of various fresh water gobies.
There are also very rare precious pictures inside.
The person with the interest seems to be available from the following sites.

Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
Hi fishguy122!
Probably I think that it is very likely to be lentipes multiradiatus because it is from Indonesia.
Water tunk size
60×30×36cm
About 30 of fish is being raised.
Surplus illumination and Jungle of water plant.
Countless shrimps and small conchs.
I thought that it is a species of the Lentipes genus.fishguy122 wrote: can you ID my gobies please? And how big is your goby tank and how many are in there?
