Pink Tail Chalceus

Recently decided to get one for my planned 2nd 473 liter loach tank (signature). They look absolutely stunning.

I never saw them alive, but they grow BIG nit big, but BIG 20 cm or more, and you better have a school of them.

MonsterFishKeepers also suggested 1.83m was the minimum (although they did say that it was very inactive when not scared, so 1.83m would almost certainly suffice as more than just a minimum): https://www.monsterfishkeepers.com/foru ... us.744707/
And AqAdvisor saw no problem with having one in a 1.83m tank.

Of course, if I find 1.83m is for some reason not enough for the chalceus I get, rehoming should be easy enough.

On numbers, as per Seriously Fish, my understanding is that keeping them in a school is optional since they tend to not like their own kind and need enough individuals to spread aggression if there is more than 1 in the tank. So a single specimen will almost certainly do well on its own, going by that.

Seems like C. macrolepidotus doesn't just not like its own kind, it dislikes them so much to the point of taking them out. The account of them killing each other says a lot, this definitely isn't a schooling fish!

Also an update to this thread. I no longer believe the 1.83m by 47cm footprint tank I was going to put the chalceus in is going to be large enough for an adult 20-25cm specimen, so I won't get one for that tank.
My views on general fish tank size have changed from at least 6x the length and 1.5x the width to at least 8x the length and 2.5x the width. So I'll wait for my future custom tank of 2.42m x 77cm in footprint (which ought to be plenty big enough) to get a chalceus.
