My rhinogobius kind have a small mouth, perhaps when it would be an adult (I don't know if is a young Rhinogobius duospilus or another tiny specie) I will have problems

Hi Crissyloach!
Thank you very much for having helped with the indication of shadowbane's image.

Hi shadowbane!
Thank you for replying.
In fact, I traveled on the weekend and attended at a goby meeting for the study.
Therefore I was able to hear some interesting stories from some ichthyologists.
I am interested very much in some Stiphodon.sp which you introduced.
Because it was the S.elegans oldest name, it was named for an once various Stiphodon species.
However, will distribution area of S.elegans be really wide like S.percnopterygionus?
S.elegans surely inhabits islands such as French Polynesia, Fiji, Samoa.
http://w3.u-ryukyu.ac.jp/coe/action/new ... wsl10.html
[Edited 18 May 2011] [Because I have forgotten to write an important thing, I add it.]
The fry of Stiphodon falls down to the sea once, and it is progressed by an ocean current. They can thereby enlarge the habitation area.
However, each ocean current is divided between the Northern Hemisphere and the Southern Hemisphere by an equatorial current.
That is why it is thought that it is not easy for the diffusion of the fry caused by the ocean current to be beyond the equator.

Would the male first dorsal fin of Stiphodon.sp which you watched extend it?
http://calphotos.berkeley.edu/cgi/img_q ... +1106+0439

Because it is the information that I just knew, I do not yet understand the details.
However, would you consider the possibility that the Stiphodon is S.pulchellus if you like?
S.pulchellus

It is not to have been limited to Stiphodon, but the old scientific name that was ever named seems to be arranged based on new knowledge.
When you examine it with the member of your laboratory, I am glad.
I had been to only Cebu in the Philippines, but wanted to go to San Luis, Aurora when I watched your fascinating photograph.

Hello, Rhinogobius.
I think that it is very important for fishes to make a lot of hiding places.

I do not understand why so many have had difficulty gaining official photos of our fish.

Even fishbase has no photographs of these fish.
Yet it was some years that our scientists have studied our fish.

I'm going crazy,
I tried to talk with researchers in my country, but they say nothing.
I think that we must seek official image sitphodon elegans.

I'm sure some Stiphodon have several names and the same species.

I think that should be a great meeting and sharing all our information, because if we wait for our scientists decide for us in a few years will have the same level.

I made an expedition to Okinawa of the subtropics in the southernmost part of Japan two weeks ago.
I took a photo of a lot of Stiphodon genus and Lentipes genus underwater in a river over there.

Stiphodon atropurpureus
A male approaches a female in the following video clip, but does not know whether the female is S.atropurpureus.

Stiphodon percnopterygionus
Both blue type and red type of male nuptial coloration appear in the video clip.

The childish individuals which went up from the sea.
Probably I think that it is childish Stiphodon percnopterygionus.
The distinction of the sex is not yet possible at this size.

The species that was announced as a non-mention species of the Stiphodon genus last year.
In late years it came to be frequent in Okinawa region.
Probably they will drift from the south of Philippines.

Ken Maeda, a researcher in OIST’s Marine Genomics Unit,
has identified a new freshwater goby species on the islands of Okinawa and Iriomote.
The species, Stiphodon alcedo, is described in the latest issue of the journal Cybium.

Wonderful pictures, Odyssey.
I always enjoy your informative postings.

I wonder what that unknown Stiphodon might be. :?:

It does not yet have the name.
Therefore, we cannot but call it a species of the Stiphodon genus.

If my memory is positive, I think that Kajsa12 kept S.percnopterygionus.
How about your S.percnopterygionus?
Fortunately I was able to take picture of breeding activity of S.percnopterygionus the day before yesterday.

Yes, you remembered correctly.
I have two female and two male S. percnopterygionus for about a year.
They are doing fine and share the tank with several other Stiphodon species, Sicyopterus(probably S. lagocephalus) and a few other species.

Hi Kajsa12!

It's vivid blue youthfully!
You may enjoy the change of colors of the body from blue to yellow and red if favorable.

This picture is the state of the same male 8 months before.

20:1??? That must an awful lot of females for just one male! The problem is, I think that all three of mine Stiphodons ''Rainbow-color'' are males...
normal that you can not find a female.

I think I understand why;

The wholesaler purchases all the time even goby.

they buy the red goby thinking he'll have males and females in the command.

Wholesalers do not buy the black gobi.
While the goby with black stripes and a female of the same species as the male.

Looks link
http://www.qianhuchina.com/All_Fish_Pix ... 81&nid=688
you remember that story, and a wholesaler listened to me and now we have stiphodon females.

The only trouble is that all females are mixed, but normaly the professor keith told me that stiphodons males only interested in their female of the same species.

But we must now put in place a topic on our females stiphodon to show to other aquarists how to differentiate species.

A yes I forgot I have a picture of elegans stiphodon : http://www.aqualifestyle-france.com/t80 ... elegans#fr

Hi tyrano34!
Thank you for information about Stiphodon elegans.

Site of previous Tahitian introduced S.elegans.
http://w3.u-ryukyu.ac.jp/coe/action/new ... wsl10.html
The ichthyologist of the acquaintance showed me another picture of Tahitian S.elegans.
Then, in fact, I was considering Tahitian travel seriously.
I couldn't go this year, but I'd like to go to Tahiti next year.
Does anyone know which month Tahitian river condition is good?

It is a site to see a picture of S.elegans of Samoa Islands as follows.

I need your help on the project "Identification of female stiphodons"

Could you open a topic on stiphodons females.
We put pictures of females and gives the case, please.

thank you

Hi everyone!
I went to Okinawa located in the Japanese most south last month and visited at several rivers.
Okinawa area is subtropical zone.
I took a lot of pictures and video clips there.

Stiphodon percnopterygionus
Those were there crowdedly.

Stiphodon atropurpureus
They come from the south by a Kuroshio Current.
The number of living in Okinawa may be increased by global warming.

Stiphodon sp.
They're Stiphodon.sp which started to be always checked in Okinawa from several years before.
Their scientific name is uncertain or unclear.

Absolutely outstanding image series yet again Odyssey. The unidentified Stiphodon sp. is interesting. It doesn't appear to be any of the described species known to occur in the Ryukyu Islands?
