Sicyopterus sp(??? S.lagocephalus???)

Sicyopterus lagocephalus which has come to my home one year before was in estrus suddenly and was the vivid body color yesterday.

The newcomer that joined on the previous day seems to be the cause.
However, both of them, a different species, should, so, it seems to be a mistake.
It's Sicyopterus.sp made in Indonesia where it's here from one year before to come out in the following picture together, not a newcomer.

Has anyone in the States run across any Sicyoterus sp. for sale? I have had a round goby (an invasive species where I live; I caught it wild) for about a year and would love to try more fw gobies! Trouble is... I can't find any.

However, Sicyopterus or Sicydium native of North America was sold in Japan.

Hi odyssey. I love the sicyopterus with the blue sheen! i've never seen this before.
I'm not familiar with a native n. american sicyopterus sp. Do you have a sp. name in English? I'd love to find some info.

SMW, Sicyopterus sp. have been available in the past but I haven't seen them latley. I'm also looking.

Don't think there are any Sicyopterus spp. on the American continent but a handful of Sicydium spp. are native to Central America and Mexico e.g. S. gymnogaster, S. multipunctatus. There are none in the United States as far as I know, but Mexico counts as North America right?

My mistake is not including Mexico and Central America as part of North America. I always think of them as seperate.

Hehe so you knew anyway. Not sure Central America can be taken as part of the north but Mexico yes I think?

"RURI BOUZU HAZE" is distributed over the Japanese south a little.
The meaning of Japanese "RURI BOUZU HAZE" is lapislazuli bonze goby.

The scientific name of "RURI BOUZU HAZE" was Sicyopterus macrostetholepis formerly.
But that's mentioned with S.lagocephalus recently.
I don't know whether the distinction just changed or 2 species was unified.

A male of S.lagocephalus sometimes seems to make a mistake in a courtship partner.
Other is S.japonicus with a picture of this Blog.

The near side is Japanese S.lagocephalus, and a back one is Indonesian Sicyopterus.sp.
It's only the front individual to become the flashy body color for the moment.
However, the difference in the species can't be found between both for me.


When both of them are the quiet body color, they don't fight so much.
But when one changes to the flashy body color, a quarrel is intensified.


It changes from the quiet body color into the flashy body color in 1-2 seconds.

Love the last picture with the spot on the nose. Really great. I can't believe they change color so quickly. Do the fights result in injuries? The bite the paler one wants to inflict looks pretty bad.

Because an adhesion alga is staple food, they do not have a sharp tusk.
And their surface of the body is very clammy.
I have not seen an involved mark of a quarrel yet.

The video clip which caught the state of their color change was raised in Youtube a short while ago.
It is a series of video clip without the editing.
Unfortunately I have failed to take the best moment.

He found the newcomer that introduced at the front and rushed, and the body color was changed.
He's intimidated by big "Mountain-Rock-Goby" and has faded after that.
