When to move dennisonii barbs?

Post by NancyD » Tue Apr 20, 2010 7:57 pm

I just came home from vacation. I'd bought 2 1.5 inch barbs that have been in quarantine for 6-7 weeks. They're ~2 inches SL now. I want to add them to a 4 ft tank with 3+ inch b.histrionicas. Are they big enough yet or should I grow them out a bit more? Everyone is in "holiday mode" less food & water changes than normal. I also have 2 ~4.5-5 inch barbs I've had for a while...big or little first?

They'll be fine being added now. I can't see any problems.
So many species of fish yet so little time, space and money to keep them all...

I have a baby denison in my 90g probably about the same size as yours and doing just fine. His tankmates include numerous rainbows, zebra and yoyo loaches and 3 adult denisons. He does stick to himself in the upper water column, but is growing fast.

Thanks, I'll move them soon then. Nice the big ones won't bother the small

Hello Nancy. Just a thought, you really should add a few more barbs to your group when you can, I know they're pricey:(. They are much more comfortable in a school. I have 8 at the moment and they chase each other all over my tank. Having only one or a couple will keep them stressed and unhappy.

I know buddy, I originally bought 5, 3 died in quarantine. Those 2 survivors are the adults now, they think some large SAEs are part of their shoal. After that expensive lesson I decided to only add a couple at a time after they've been at LFS for a while.
