Leporinus-Friend or killer?

Post by papaloach » Sat Jan 08, 2011 4:16 pm

I`ve heard alot of different views about the leporinus. Some say when they get bigger and teratorial they can be very aggressive and even take on some of the big cichlids and others say there the most peaceful fish they have. I`ve owned one of these fish for around six-seven months before i started reading about them and had no problems so far but dont want to risk it and wipe out my tank.
Has anyone got any information about these fish and can help me?

I loved my Leporinus. I had two, and they lived with a bichir, several large plecos, a big eel and they are the only fish I have ever had to return to a store. I had them for about a year, and they absolutely tore apart my fish -- only fins -- they were with tough but unaggressive fish.

With that said, I believe fish are individuals, and I give my fish a chance until they really make pests of themselves. I have skunk and tiger loaches that should be aggressive, and in 3 years, I haven't had a lick of trouble.
