I just wanted to thank you, Mark, for so clearly articulating what I have thought but was unable to properly say.

Just because we as humans can do something doesn't mean we should. If I remember correctly, many of the scientists who helped develop the atom bomb were so upset by its results that they signed a petition against using the bomb (please understand that I am just using this as an example).

In the aquarium hobby, many natural fish are being banned by countries because of the damage they do to the natural ecosystem when released by irresponsible fish keepers. It would be fine if these possible hybrids being created were only owned by responsible fish keepers but as soon as they become part of the aquarium trade, it is out of the control of the person(s) who created the hybrids. There are still a number of people who buy fish and then let them go in the streams, lakes, or rivers in their area when they no longer want them. What would happen to the native fish species of, say Alaska, if a modified cold hardy Clown Loach was released there?

Please be aware that this is just my opinion.
