I think its from getting debris in the wen folds but not sure what to do about it. Any suggestions?

I don't know but I was told once that was just a sign of new growth.

I love your oranda - adorable wen on him!!!! Doesn't look like an infection. Some illnesses like costia look like extra slime coat but you would see flashing and other signs of illness.

I am dealing with a wen infection on my orange oranda. He is all wen. His wen was very firm and has white pimples on it - the only symptoms.

If he is eating, fins erect and out, and not bottom sitting I wouldn't worry. Check your nitrates/ph too just in case.

What is a wen? Is that the bulbous part of his head?

Exactly - the part that looks like a brain. Feels like firm jello.
