Help!!!!

Post by buster » Tue Nov 20, 2007 7:45 pm

Hi,
I have 1 20 gal. and 1 10 gal. Both have 2 internal filters 10-30,
5-15, they each have 2 sources if air. My 20 gal has 4 clown loaches
4 about 3 1/2 in. and 2 1in. I alsoze ahve 3 plecs about 5 in. 1 large angle.
I was new to aquaiums when I purchased the clowns and wasn't informed about thier adult size purchased at (PETSMART). i do plan on updating my set up. I do frequent water changes. 50% weekly and 20% every other day. I dechlorinate, my water using Start Right. I did my 50% today
I checked the amonia levels last night they were both 0, today after I
did the change the amonia went to 0.50 in each. Is something I should be concerned about, or can it be caused by stress from the change. None of
the fish seem to be stressed, but I AM!!! :? :? :?

buster, your tank is so heavily overstocked I am amazed you are not having more issues.
I would return the Plecos ASAP, and get a bigger tank for the remaining fish. I know you said it was on the list of things to do, but imagine raising St. Bernards in an apartment. No matter how much you clean it will not be enough.
In the case of such an overstocked tank there simply is not enough square inches of surface to hold all the bacteria required to deal with the waste.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!
