help! clown loach not eating!

Post by fredm » Mon Jan 28, 2008 2:16 am

apologies if this subjusct has been discussed before, i am new here.
i have 3 clown loaches, 2 are robust and healthy, the 3rd one is getting
skinny. i've had them all for a few months now. i (appear to have)
sucessfully treated them for white spot about 2 months ago. other than
that, no problems that i am aware of. i do regular water changes, and
alternate between pellet food and a variety of frozen food (brine shrimp,
blood worms, tubifex worms, mysis shrimp). also in the tank are a
handful of mollies, some bloodfin tetras, and some ottocinclus (sp?)
the skinny loach doesn't display any odd behaviors that i recognize other
than the not eating.

any suggestions?

Hi fredm,

It sounds as if your loach may have Chronic Wasting Syndrome (a.k.a. Skinny 'disease') which, if it is the case, will need treating with a dewormer such as Levamisole hydrochloride or Flubendazole. Here is an article on using Levamisole: http://www.loaches.com/Members/shari2/l ... chloride-1 Also if you do a search of the forum (search button at top of screen), there are many threads on this subject which may be relevant.

Hope this helps,

Emma
