Skinny Clown

Post by Lono » Sun Mar 02, 2008 6:32 pm

hello all!
I have a group of 4 clowns in a 55 gal. with a few silver dollars and tiger barbs..the loaches seem well and are social and happy, however, one of the loaches has fallen behind in size and appears much skinnier and paler than the other 3 loaches, but he still socializes and feeds like normal..what could this be? disease? runt?
Any help or ideas appreciated..thanks
Lono

Hi Lono,

Providing that the loaches are all getting their fair share of food with those fairly greedy tankmates, and one appears to not be gaining weight, then it may well have Chronic Wasting Syndrome (CWS) also known as 'skinny disease'. Normal treatment is via Levamisole hydrochloride: http://www.loaches.com/Members/shari2/l ... chloride-1 It would be best to treat the fish sooner rather than later and it will also be more cost effective to treat in this size tank, before you upgrade to a larger sized aquarium to accomodate the growing clown loaches and silver dollars.
