Worms

Post by Diane C » Sun Jan 04, 2009 3:31 pm

Can anyone describe to me what worms look like when they come out of the anus of the fish? I know usually I see some running around with a long string that is probably poop, but how can you tell the difference between the 2. I have an issue going on with my fish, and maybe what I thought was a trail of poo was actually worms.

Thank you,

Hi Diane, if you are referring to the camallanus this is what it may look like:

Long, stringy, white poo may be a sign of other internal parasites. There are many species of 'worms'.
Most are not so obvious as the posted picture.

Other signs of internal parasites are fish that eat a lot but do not gain weight.
Fish that do not eat much.
Fish with a large abdomen.
Skinny fish.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.

Happy fish keeping!

Thanks you guys for the info. I don't recognize the camallanus on any of my fish. However what Diana mentioned could be part of the problem. I am going to try to go by the feed store tomorrow and check out the Levamisol, if they carry it and they should. Even if they don't have worms the Levamisol won't hurt them will it? Also I did a search on here for a post from Shari regarding how to administer the Levamisol but I could not find it. I will keep looking tho.

Thanks for the info. I appreicate it.

Diane, on the main page scroll down and click on disease, you will find the article by Shari there. I still haven't learned to post links.
