Strange Dojo Behavior

Post by nurseshelly » Sun Apr 06, 2008 1:33 pm

Hi,
I have a golden female Dojo Loach that I have had for about a month. I have also have male brown Dojo that I've had for about 3 months, and another golden female (I think, this one can't decide if the dorsal fin is going to be up or down!) that I got with the first one about a month ago. I did have another brown one, who sadly got out of the tank during a water change, and I didn't realize it until a few days later :( . My first guy was lonely without his friend. So when I went looking for another loach, the only ones I could find were the goldens, and I decided to just get two.
The smaller of the two goldens acts just like my brown Dojo ... the larger one is about 4.5 inches long, and eats fine, but "shivers" or "shudders" when she swims. This one was also a little different at the pet store because it was the only one not hiding under stuff, and I questioned the store staff when they chose this one, if they thought it was healthy, and they assured me it was fine.
Other than the strange way it swims, it behaves normal. It hangs out with the other Dojos, comes out to eat and play, etc... It's in good condition, nice and plump, but not too fat, nice skin condition. But, I kind of wonder if it has some neurological damage from when it was caught in the wild.
I was wondering if anyone else has had a Dojo that swims like this ... maybe it's more common than I know.

Hi,
I just wanted to let you guys know that this dojo has stopped all of it's strange behavior since around the start of May. I'm wondering if it was subjected to really poor water conditions in transport or something, and that damaged it and made it swim so strangely ... maybe it just took it a long time to recover from it? Anyway, it's been acting totally normal now.
