What do you feed your Kubotai?

Post by angelfish83 »

Now that I know I have a pair of screwily patterned polkadots, what's the ideal diet?

Right now they just eat whatever's around... shrimp pellets, algae wafers, bottom feeder wafers, the odd mysis shrimp... I cant get any friggin bloodworms now because I am without car and in the summer they thaw... SHoulda bought more in February...

They probably would not mind coming to the surface for these, they do here.

Coming to the surface

Post by QueenDustBunny »

My B. Kubatai will come up to the surface straight away for the freeze-dried blood worms. They share their space with the rainbow shark and balas, but they will chase away the greedy barbs. I usually feed in the two front corners of the tank to avoid tangles. I hope this sheds some light for you.

My three get a bit of everything from flake food, to frozen brine shrimp, frozen blood worms, frozen daphnia, pellet food - a variety of that, zucchini, squash, etc. Keeps them busy.

Two possibilities:

1. They are not B.Kubotai, or perhaps not loaches at all (do they have barbels or scales?)
2. They are not in good health (they do move/swim occassionally, right?)

I have eight of them now, and the only one ever that rejected bloodworms in any form was a very weak loach (tapeworm infection), long ago cured. These guys are active feeders, they are even capable of pushing aside larger clowns or yoyos.
