16cm Vaillantella maassi

Post by Graeme Robson »

I've been able to capture some pictures of this 'long' Vaillantella maassi today. For some reason he was being co-operative and finally decided to show his face. I purchased two of these chaps back in May from Emma's store to accompany my other two. Size in others are from 8cm to 11cm. Here's the Beast!

Fantastic!!!! Keep the pics coming!
How does 'The Beast' seem to be getting on with the others? Any interesting behaviour to report?

Really stunning looking fish Graeme. I like the way the light caught it.

Thanks. Nobody seems to bother or approach this one. It's safe to say size is a major factor. Others do have little niggles with one-another but they defiantly leave him to his own devices.

Driving 400 miles to pick these up, i hope someone is jealous. But the main thing is that i'm proud of them.

You do know that I've been looking for these fish for YEARS, right

grrrrrr!

Now I really have to get out there and find one or two, I think. Beautiful specimen and quality photo, as usual, Graeme.

Cheers Shari and Jim.

Jim. You can get a better understanding of his length here. It's amazing watching him swim. :D

Drooling... where does one find it? Is there a common trade name for the sp. one can search by?

I think there's the Fork-Tailed Loach name thats becoming popular in the common named world.

Yes, those two I got in for Graeme recently were listed with the common name 'Fork Tailed Loach'. Previously (from a different supplier) I have seen them listed as 'Spiny Eel Loach'. They rarely come up on lists though, and quite often there is a 'waiting list' of clients with many of the suppliers. They are also very expensive.

I got mine as Fork Tailed loaches., also. They were only about $7-8 (US) which I thought was reasonable.
