White Spot

Post by Baz Bluck »

I have just enrolled and am in need of help. I am sure that this question has been asked thousands of times but I am desperate. What is the best treatment for white spot for my clowns, I have tried Interpret Anti White Spot plus to no avail. Regular water changes do not help.

My personal favorite treatment is Protozin (by Waterlife).

Anything with Malachite Green and/or Formalin should work. Many loach keepers will split the dose and do half in the am, and half in the pm. Remove any carbon, if you use it.

Do a really good water change with gravel vacuuming and don't stop the treatment when the spots first disappear. The parasite will exist for several days after all signs of the spots are gone. Continue treatment for at least 3 more days.

Do a HUGE water change, put the carbon back in the filter, and continue with regular water changes afterward.

To eliminate this problem in the future quarantine all new fish in a separate smaller tank (like 10g) for several weeks to see what problems develop before adding them to the main tank. That way you can treat an outbreak of disease or parasites in the much smaller tank and save the expense of treating the larger tank and possibly losing fish or damaging a well established bio filter with antibiotics.
