Very nice, they are a stunning fish when adults, I have 7 adults now upto 6" and the colours and markings are wonderful, I have a feeling you will be very happy with them

Never seen Emperor here in Brazil. Other day, guy from LFS called me to tell the good news:

We have Emperor Botia!

I ran there but the one he got was Syncrossus helodes.

Its incredible how different they look ,when compared to the age/scale pics displayed in HH's original description to me they look like Histrionica , beautifully conditioned specimens

I will have to post up some pics. I am pretty sure they are B. udomritthiruji, as I was also concerned that maybe someone was trying to pass off juvenile rostrata or histrionica to an unsuspecting hobbyist. I aquired 2 different groups, one of 4 (the supplier only had 4 not the 5 he had originally thought) and one of 3. Though 2 different suppliers I am pretty sure they came from the same exporter overseas ( the 2nd supplier was fairly certain that he and the 1st supplier both have the same source and I have no reason to doubt him). They were about 2" SL when I got the 1st group. In less than a month they have added at least another 1/2" and there lines are starting to seperate. The color is much better now that they have been here for a little while-even their dorsal fins have a yellow-gold hue to them. And man are they fun to watch! They really interact with each other. I will get some pics tomorrow.

I have to admit I did see some in a shop a couple of months back and my first reaction was rostrata.

Hi Dconnors , personally imo they look like Histrionica , having said that I must add that they look exceptional specimens I just can't see Emperor Botia , and looking at HH's description the pic of a small Emperor looks more like a juvenile Rostrata than an Histrionica

If they are Emperors it would be nice to see them at different stages of their developement , also if they indeed turn out to be Histrionica I bet they would look fantastic all the same

Here are some photos I took today. It is pretty interesting how different the patterns are amongst the seven of them. Since adding the 3 new ones over the weekend they have really become quite active and fun to watch!

Time will be the only way to be for sure what species they are. I really hope they are not histrionica, as those were also on the suppliers list and about 1/4 of the price! Time will tell...

I still think they look like Histrionica but hey Histrionica are truely beautiful fishes and shouldn't be taken for granted , I waited for years to obtain them ! they were one of those fishes I had read about and fantacised that one day I might be lucky enough to see them ,let alone keep them

I could be proven wrong and perhaps they are indeed Emperors but for now I'd go with Histrionica .

At least you are logging their progress with these wonderful pics thanks for posting .
