Fish Stores these days

Post by ClownLoachSharky » Sun Nov 06, 2011 2:08 am

today i went to a fish store i have never been to and had the shock of my life. First of all, the clown loaches cost $25 AU (other stores $9). Anyway to the main point, It said on the clown loach quick fact thingy that it would only reach 2.8 inches. It also said it was recommended to be kept with lake Malawi's. poor loaches.

Lol. According to their website "experienced in fish keeping for over 30 years" or something like that. Whatever...

Maybe they looked up the wrong loach profile ?

Ask them to look at this page:

or print and give it to them

Hope you set them straight and gave him a copy of the poster.

People in my fish club still tout clowns as snail control in cichlid tanks. I have been stomping on that idea every time I hear it. With education, people will eventually learn.

Some miss information is kind of how I got into Loaches, at one of my LFS in my area I was looking for something to help with my snail epidemic on my 20gal tank when I first got started in fish keeping about 6 years ago. I was told that Clown loaches would eradicate the snail problem. Which they did, I was also told to keep them in groups of 3 at the minimum, there again the right advice, but they never thought to ask what I had in there already, which was not an issue as there was just a Rainbow fish (not really sure came with tank) and some plants. but obviously the tank was too small for 3 Clown loaches, luckily I got small guys about 0.5-1" So when I got home I read about them, should have done that first :) and figured I needed a bigger tank and got a 55gal. I unfortunately have since lost them due to a move and ick. but they were happy for the almost 6 years and grew to be a good size, the big momma was about 7-8" when she died, when I moved about a year ago I think it was trauma and unfortunately the rest about a month ago do to ick and me not using a Q tank, lesson learned.
