Floating Dojo

Post by Caryld » Thu Jun 07, 2012 12:09 pm

One of my golden weather loaches seems unable to stay below the surface of the water unless it wedges itself under the filter. If I disturb it it can swim to the bottom, but as soon as it relaxes it floats to the top. Any ideas?
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 5 - 10 ppm
270 l tank (60 US G)
Tank fishless cycled, stocked since mid April. Before that the same fish (3 weather loach, 8 WCCM, 4 Danio) were in smaller tank, since January.
Tank 25% pwc weekly.
Temp 70, unheated.

After a few days in a hospital tank, the loach has died.

Must have been a swim bladder problem ?

I am not sure if there are antibiotics that can help with that.

My dojo/weather loaches will also float to the surface from time to time, but usually it is trapped gas in the digestive tract,
I give them some "Pepso Food" from Jungle Labs, it makes them pass the gas and then they are not so buoyant ;)
