Medication Advice (goldfish)
one of my goldfish (the white one if you remember me!) has a bloated side.
her side is discoloured slightly and a few scales are lifting.
at first, both of my fish went through their normal swelling (which i always attributed to holding eggs) but this time, the swelling one one of their sides (right side) hasn't disappeared.
i found a treatment in my local store but since i have no experience (or very little) with shop bought medicines, i wanted to check if it was safe to use.
i have 2 goldfish and 1 weather/dojo loach in the same tank.
here are the medicine details
Name: Interpet Anti Internal Bacteria 100ml
Active Ingredients: Bronopol 523mg, Formaldehyde 1,000mg, Benzalkonium Chloride 250mg
It states on the box that it is for use with 'ornamental fresh water fish only'.
Any advice is greatly appreciated. If you have any ideas for alternative treatments that would be safer or better please let me know!

A one-sided swelling is not usually bacterial. While it may relate to holding the eggs, it could also be a tumor.
38 tanks, 2 ponds over 4000 liters of water to keep clean and fresh.
Happy fish keeping!

Just an update to let you know that 'Fish' of the 'Fish and Chips' duo passed away today.
Soon after developing a distended belly on one side, she started to show dropsy like symptoms.
I treated her as best I could but I fear that she just wasn't strong enough to pull through, although near the end, her swelling did ease off a bit.
She was roughly 10 years old and had a pretty good life. She rekindled my love of cold water fish and entertained everyone with her antics.
She will always remain my darling little sweety who randomly decided that orange wasn't her colour and turned white :')

It's a bit too late, but this is a really good article about diseases in koi. I know, not goldfish but it's worth a read from top to bottom.

Just an update to let you all know that 'Chips', the surviving member of the 'Fish and Chips Duo' passed away today.
Since the death of 'Fish', she was never quite the same.
She passed peacefully and as comfortably as I could make her.
I feel privileged to have looked after these two darling fish for 10 years.
(before Fish decided to turn completely white)
(friends since the beginning - I can't believe they used to be so small!)
p.s. Chips was 1ft in length when she died, measured from mouth to tail tip - the biggest goldfish I've ever had the privilege to care for
