Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
HI odyssey
Thanks for ur reply, I went to west Java of Indo with my fisher man last year, and I have found some goby if possible I can send u some picture by email, some of it after I discuss with our team member could not know, hope u can help us.
The Stiphodon.sp "Raibow-color" and Stiphodon.sp orange fin all from Sumatra island I plan go there on March or Aprial to found more goby, because I found there are only this tow types goby export to China and Janpan, I did not see any one eales from that island so my Indo friend suggest me to visit the fisher there and go different river to find more types.
and also Halmahera Island I will visit after island Sumatra, by the way what do u think about Sangihe Island? is also the island in north of Indo.
For Stiphodon percnopterygionus do u think can find in the north of Indo? I know Taiwan has a lot of Stiphodon percnopterygionus group, but I still try to find if they have in Indo.
Please let me know if I can have ur email, because as u know China block a lot of website and I am also hard to put pics here.

hi Odyssey,
Can you distinguish between S.atratus and S.ornatus ,it is Too difficult for me.
and,i found a problem:Sicyopus zosterophorum Is different in different watershed performance,The most obvious difference is that the first dorsal fin eye spot(S. zosterophorum from Sulawesi have the eye spot and S. zosterophorum from Taiwan does not ), Have you found that?

Hi sj861008!sj861008 wrote:Can you distinguish between S.atratus and S.ornatus ,it is Too difficult for me.
In fact, according to the book of "Indo-Pacific Sicydiine Gobies" of last note, S.atratus seems to have been unified by S.pelewensis!
Though I thought that I found the S.atratus in Australia with much effort, I'm disappointed to hear that S.atratus is the same species with S.pelewensis.
The habitation domain of S.pelewensis seems to be considerably large.
Becouse the variation of the appearance of S.ornatus is very large.
I do not have confidence to distinguish S.pelewensis from S.ornatus without habitat information.
I have no objection in particular even if it would be said that S.pelewensis is included in S.ornatus.
I have not noticed such the differencesj861008 wrote:and,i found a problem:Sicyopus zosterophorum Is different in different watershed performance,The most obvious difference is that the first dorsal fin eye spot(S. zosterophorum from Sulawesi have the eye spot and S. zosterophorum from Taiwan does not ), Have you found that?
However, the habitat of S.zosterophorum is vast from the Northern hemisphere to the Southern Hemisphere.
The statistical comparison of enough many individuals will be necessary to prove that it is not simple individual difference .

Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
Hi Odyssey,
This thread is wonderful and I am very glad I found it.
I am currently putting together a stiphodon tank and I have a question for you.
What substrate do you use? your substrate appears to be small white and clear rocks, but I was wondering if there is a specific name for it. Thank you for your time!!

Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
hi odyssey, beautiful picture, thank you. and i have a problem:I remember you have been to Bali Island ,Have you found Stiphodon atropurpureus from Japan(Including Taiwan) is different from Bali(Indonesia)about Their body color?I found that S.atropurpureus from Japan(Including Taiwan)is purple, and S.atropurpureus from Indonesia is green
About body color
I was not able to watch Stiphodn in Bali.
About body color:
Because the male color of the body of Stiphodon changes variously, I think that it is unreliable.
It's possible to change the male body color of Stiphodon intentionally.
Furthermore the color development greatly changes by the situation of the light at the time of the photography.

Re: Stiphodon genus of the Goby
Hi sj861008
Blue face is male's typical estrus expression of Stiphodon genus.
I uploaded Sicyopterus lividus pictures in the following thread in this forum.
http://forums.loaches.com/viewtopic.php ... 75#p203696
You can find other picture in this page.
http://www.comfsm.fm/~brianl/tropical.html
Sicyopterus lividus and Stiphodon caeruleus are endemic species of the Micronesia.
They are known only in 2 adjacent islands.
I have not yet been to Sumatra.
Becaus Sumatra island is too big and cannot communicate in English, it is difficult to search without local support.
The most large size of Stiphodon pelewensis which I saw was probably 6-7cm.sj861008 wrote:about S.pelewensis,I find it very big,What is the length of it?and does that blue face guy in the Estrus?
