More then one Yoyo loach

Post by Justdave » Sat Dec 15, 2018 10:53 pm

I got a yoyo the other day, and since then I've read they like to be in a tank with 3 or more of their own kind, I fear I might run out of room if I add more.
My question is can I get some other type of smaller loaches, to keep him happy, or do I have to go with more yoyo?

While I have no experience with Yoyo - you could perhaps try with a yoyoish fish. Problem is, I know only 1 yoyoish fish. And any other would grow more or less to the same size.

What size is your tank? I would not keep less than 5 yoyos, in a 4 ft tank. I haven't kept them, they get to at least 5 or even 6 inches & are semi-aggressive. There are very nice botia loaches that stay smaller & more mellow. Maybe we can help you with loach suggestions based on your tank size & any other fish you want to keep with them.

I have a 20g 4foot long. The fish I have is 4 common guppies, 2 tiger, and one yoyo.

What are the dimensions of your tank? I've never heard of a 4ft 20g...

A lone yoyo is apt to be aggressive; guppies will be in trouble. What are your "tigers"? Barbs or loaches...or what?

We want to help you; we need more information.

NO! NO!, this tank size is too small for 1 yoyo at even juvenile sizes! You might look at pangios (kuhlis) or sidthimunkis...but 6 is a minimum for either. Please rehome the yoyo or get a much larger tank ASAP.

I was looking for the correct answer. Thank you. I will re-home my yoyo. This is my first tank, and I appreciate any feedback.

I loved both pangios (kuhlis, striped for my preference) & dwarf chain loaches (ambastia sidthimunki). Either of those would be ok in you tank, check them out.
