White patch on clown

Post by Ippo456 » Mon Apr 16, 2007 11:36 pm

Ok, so my tank is recovering from a bad case ofIch.
The loaches look fine now & all water params are normal, but I don't have the measurement for Nitrate (I'm guessing it's near 0, since there might still be some lingering meds in the water that could've messed up the cycle).

I noticed on one of the clown loaches, he has this white spot the black stripe near his caudal fin.
It's not like Ich white specks, but a small blob of white spot.
I can't get a good pic, so I hope my description is good enough.
Doesn't look completely white, but makes this black stripe looks a little greyish.
I've been observing him for a couple of days & he seems to be swimming around alright.
I'm not sure if this is something to worry about or this is normal.

I think my loaches are still traumatized by how much medicines I've been medicating them with, but they're slowly forgiving me during the frequent water changes that I've been doing.

Thanks in advance for answers.

Ippo, what size is the clown again and is this whiteness new?
Is it raised, or fuzzy?

I'd say he's about 2-1/2 inches long from head to tail.
Well, the whiteness is no longer new, maybe for about less than a week now.
It's not raised, & the colour looks as if someone is trying to erase his black stripe :P
He seems to be doing well though, so I hope it's nothing serious.
What do you mean by 'fuzzy'?
It doesn't look like fuzzy fungus if that's what you're talking about .. that's why I'm confused what it could be.

He still has the white stuff, but he seems ok.
So, I don't know if this is normal discolouration of some sort?

Sounds like he'd be too small to be starting to show the white patches in the stripes that clowns will have when they get larger, but your description sounds like what that appears to look like.

I think Emma has some pics of her older/larger clowns that show that white area well...

My largest is just starting to get the white inside the stripes. i'll see if I can get a pic tomorrow, but he's generally not cooperative. 8)

Actually .. this particular clown is the least active one compared to my other ones.
They're all still shy, but this one just likes to hide in a terracotta pot that's in the corner.
He only comes out when I come near to the tank, trying to dart away.
It'd be really great if I can see pics of clowns with a similar white spot :)
Thanks 8)
