I ran through my DVDs and am forced to see that I´m actually a wimp.
50 first dates
keeping the faith
remember the titans
love actually
and I won't even admit princess diary 1 and 2
I think I have to see a therapist, who sends me out to shoot some bambies.
There's also:
Ray
Hunt for red October
Last Samurai, at last a film, where it was enough for Tom Cruise to wear lifters and hadn't to climb on a chair in dialogue scenes. Nonetheless with a fantastic Ken Watanabe in it.
And last not least on video:
The Snapper

Those are not wimpy movies, Rich...a love story like '50 First Dates' is one of the best- exhausting, in it's way, funny and joyful and tearful and makes you wonder just how strong you'd be in that kind of situation. Exhausting, but nice- just like the real thing.

Same with 'Love Actually'. You're not a wimp, IMHO- just a hopeless romantic. Nothing wrong with that!

Yes indeed.

A great movie, but perhaps better in its parts than its whole.
I'm surprised no one mentioned Some Like it Hot, OTOH, maybe someone did :?

Yes Some Like It Hot is brilliant.

I've seen The Last Samurai rich and enjoyed it. I'm a sucker for a good Samurai movie though :) Indeed, Ken Watanabe is a fine actor. Somewhat in the Toshiro Mifuni mould.

I'm not into sport movies, but Remember The Titans is a good movie IMO. Of course, while on the subject of sports movies I'd have to include Slapshot and Tin Cup.

I have absolutely no interest in golf but I love Tin Cup. The relationships between the characters are brilliant and funny and Rene Russo can have the top off my egg at breakfast anyday she wants :D

Das Boot
Pink Flamingos
Plan Nine from Outer Space
Clockwork Orange

Repo Man and Dr. Strangelove, as Ken says - must see pictures! (Signs is a piece of pish, as is ... I'm trying to recall a Mel Gibson movie I enjoyed...)

The Good the Bad and the Ugly
Fist Full of Dollars (don't bother with For a Few Dollars More)
The Wild Bunch
Brazil
With Friends Like Harry
Diva - this one ranks in my all time favourite films!
Pi
The Canadian made sci fi film, The Cube
Videodrome
Being John Malkovitch
The Draughtman's Contract
Serial Mom
Duck Soup
Singin' in the Rain

!! All About Eve !!

Event Horizon
the first Omen film
Jaws
The Thing (later 1982 version, with Kurt Russell)
Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (better if you've read the book already)
I agree with Dave C that American Psycho is a good movie, but it's not as good as the book.

Delicatessen
True Stories (Talking Heads)
A Private Function (Michael Palin and Maggie Smith)
The Night Porter
The Singing Detective - this is a mini-series by Dennis Potter - absolute gold!

OMG! How on earth did I forget Local Hero? I love, love, love this film. It has immense charm and humour and any soundtrack by Mark Knopfler gets my vote....brilliant!

If you only ever rent one DVD rent this one.

V for Vendetta. Sort of a 1984 takeoff but much different. Even has John Hurt, though this time he's more of a Big Brother role then a Winston Smith. Loved Natalie Portman in this flick.

Graeme,

I just rented a bunch of movies last week including Shooter.. I would say its worth renting.. Of the entire lot I rented I would say Shooter was the best..

Shooter has all the elements of a great movie... Which are

Violence
Retaliation for violence, perpetuating even more grand violence
Cleavage
A scene in which there is no reason or explanation why a girl is shirtless.. But she is, and for that you give thanks
Car Chases...

Need I say more...

I like Signs because it was relatively scary and it didn't reply on special effects. You may not have liked it because of the religious overtones.

Are you saying you didn't care for The Road Warrior?
