Agreed, Jim. We've kept them for the summer a couple of times. They are protective of their chosen area of substrate. Not good for other territorial bottom dwellers (or small dithers, either!).

oh, ok. I was asking about the sunfish b/c I have a 4-inch pumpkinseed sunfish in my 55 gallon former loach tank,since all the loaches were wiped out by ich. Since it's currently my only heated coldwater tank kept at 68 degrees, i figured if i found sinibotia I could keep them in there for a bit. If I do find some too soon, then I'll have to get a divider.

To be honest I have no idea whatsoever. I hadn't added any new fish for over a month and a half, it wasn't overstocked, and the water quality was fine. It may have been from using a net from my new goldfish tank in that tank but i'm not sure...anyway, the 1 survivor, my pleco, didn't show any signs of ich for more than 6 months so I decided to add the small sunfish, and ich has yet to reapear.
