Glenna, at risk of hijacking the post, I raise my own California Red Wrigglers in a big tupperware box on the balcony. Don't do it this way ;)
Plenty of info on internet and can buy worm-stock on-line as well.
No, doesn't stink if you don't overfeed. Problem is it's tough to gauge what is enough versus too much to get good production. I guess this comes with experience. Tell me if you figure it out.

I feed several types of pellets, flakes & frozen foods in rotation plus romaine & zucchini.

glenna, I have red wigglers & white worm cultures I keep in the basement. The smell isn't too bad until I open the wiggler box. But I have mites & some other bug, kinda creepy. The white worms get fed oatmeal so not much smell. I'm sure if I remembered to feed them more I'd be more successful.

I feed mine 1.5mm slow sinking growth pellets that I order from Kens. i also feed my own frozen food as a treat, along with freeze dried jrill as an occasional treat. I have 16 clowns ranging from 2" to 7.5" and 6. Kubotai at about 1.5"
