Yo-yo growth

Post by kingmed » Fri Jul 17, 2009 10:13 pm

Do yo yo loaches grow pretty quick?, I bought mine about 3 weeks ago and they have already grown it seems at least a 1/4 inch each. Do they get aggressive as they get older?, I have 2 angelfish, and 5 black skirt tetras in the tank, they seem to bother the tetras or play with them every so often.

Indeed, the Botia almorhae are one of the quickest Botiine Loaches in growth rate. Like in many juvenile Botiine Loaches the appetite can be excessive. Once they reach maturity (Botia almorhae) they often border or can border on becoming a aggressive Loach, but only depending on aquarium size and structural layout. In general the Botia almorhae is a active Loach with shyness not respected until maturity. What size is your tank? Here's a profile link to them >> http://www.loaches.com/species-index/botia-almorhae

The tank is a 55 gallon with 4 loaches in it. Reason why is that I've read (which doesn't make it true) that they have been noted to eat the eyes out of fish, I'm not sure if I belive this or not--that's why I was asking. They don't seem to bother the angelfish eventhough the angelfish is a teddy bear, kind of minds it's own buisness. I think my tank is over stocked but I've got another 55 gallon going up in a few months. I also have 1 synodontis catfish, raphael and two spotted cory's.
