An aquaristic friend flyes often to south asia and told me, fishes (f.i. red parrots - also a bad story!) get tatoos there.
Other dyed fishes are: Corydoras or Ambassidae.

If female http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poeciliidae are pregnant, they get a dark/black point in the near of/around the anus, the so called "pregnancy dot/mark/patch".
Did she has this dot?

look this battle in the tank between a Sewellia lineolata and (in my opinion) a Gastromycon punctulatus. Please not the totally different color of the Gastromycon! The normally color is dark grey.
