Cheers. A fish is a fish at the end of the day - though it gave me lots of enjoyment. It's just a shame with this particular one due to the additional fin on its tail. Dead Clown Loach

Well, I was devastated today to find that my prized 7" clown loach has died. ( Sorry, make that 9" - I have just measured it )Some of you may remember this loach - it was the one wih the tail mutation that I have posted on here. :cry:

Well, my loach looks pretty normal, apart from his tail mutation. I don't think he is a victim of some intensive farming - just a really pretty boy and unique to me. :) All his body shape is right, he just has that little notch on his fin. Despite your impatience :wink: I would have thought the clown loaches would have been perfect. The yoyo's even more.

My Dad had a problem with snails and he put some plant food into the tank which was high in Iron content and this seemed to kill them off. I guess like the old penny in the tank ...

Another of the 3 new clown loaches has now died. Exact same symptoms as for the other. Became sluggish in the tank, body swelled a bit, then the eyes started to protrude. It may be dropsy then. I have had a Platy with it previously and it swelled up and it's fins turned into a pine cone. I was reassured that this disease was not necessarily contagious ( and this Clown Loach was a new young fish) so hopefully the others won't be affected. I did a big ...

I just wondered what the snails were doing in there. Are these to feed the loaches or are they growing in there. The only reason i ask is because I heard that the round shell variety are poisonous to fish as they give off a neural toxin.

Just a thought - I could of course have it completely wrong.

I believe these sensory detectors are probably more akin with water conditions / prey in the water and the loaches ability to locate food properly. Maybe someone should contact the loach breeders and find out if they get this happening when the loaches are forced to breed via hormone treatment. I ...

Maybe this tail pattern makes mine a breeder :wink:

No-one has ever seen a tail pattern like this and if I remember Clown's being captively bred are almost impossible to get. So maybe my one off could be the one who is ready :wink: :wink:

I did persevere with them for a while as I thought it may just be the change in what they are used to. They go eventually, but disintegrate a lot which can cloud the water a bit. Is there another type maybe that I am not aware of? They are definitely JMC sinking catfish pellets that I have. My tank ...

I must admit, my loaches didn't like the JMC sinking catfish pellets either, despite recommendations. They do however like the high protein granular food ( I think by JMC again) but I don't seem to be able to buy this at the moment. It is a small tub with an orange top and it says high protein food ...

This is why you do research before you buy fish. Loaches click. Its just something they do. Clowns are particularly loud clickers. You can't mix a clown with a Dojo. Dojo's need cool water clowns like it on the hot side, not just warm.

Your fish is not 'tapping the glass'

Also, Dojo's and clowns ...
