Yeah Mick i was thinking that also, but the gap between the pectoral fins seem a bit wide from the picture below. I was first thinking it's a Homaloptera tweediei but from India? Puzzled now.... :o

i left the tweediei because jostis fish lacks the bold caudal pattern.
i checked the psiloryhnchus species in the book but there is'nt any that resemble the fish.

Although there is nothing to indicate size I would opt for a juvenile Travancoria elongata
So many species of fish yet so little time, space and money to keep them all...

I was told it was a new specis, but I don't know.
If I get good proposals here till over the week end ( I am out) I will ask back to India.

I got this answer from India today:

The hill stream loach is a spec of Bhavania australias but it is completely different spec. it is wider and the size I have seen in the wild is around 8cm.

Which I have never heard of.

Bhavania australis (Western Ghat Loach) :?:

It still reminds me of a Homaloptera sp. Ones like the Homaloptera pillaii, Homaloptera montana...etc which is also from western Ghats.

Interesting.
