Every exhibitor has his/her own show tanks of varying sizes from as small as 4"x4"x4" (some associations allow smaller) up to 24" tank and bigger depending on the fish.BotiaMaximus wrote: Was the room cleared so the judges could pull the bribes out from under the ID tags??
When you guys do these shows, whose water is used? What's the setup on all that for aeration and water quality? Self contained for each fish, or are they sharing common water on those benches with possible cross contamination issues?? - Just curious, no plans on showing.
Every fish is put into its tank at home and the tank is sealed or the fish are transported in buckets and transferred into show tanks at the venue.
When the fish are on the bench small battery operated air pumps can be used in the tanks but these have to be switched off prior to judging, at conventions or large fish keeping events fish can be exhibited in special tanks that are built and divided into sections with a long section created along the back for heater etc.
Obviously it does put a lot of stress on the fish to catch them, transport them, bench them (always cooling down etc) and then getting them back into their tanks sometimes 12 hours or more later, obviously the better the conditioning if the fish the better they cope.
I have seen it from both sides as I did show and was a judge as well but I am glad I don't show fish anymore.
On average I would show around 30 to 40 fish at each show and in between the open shows we would have smaller table shows at club meetings.
