Hey Everybody,

Just wondering if the Pangio's eat snails or not....? I've read that they do and read that they don't.....

What's the scoop....?

Thanx!

The scoop is that they will only eat snail eggs and the very young (with soft shells).

Occasionally.

I have caught mine picking at some pond snails, they eventually give up though. I grow snails out in my pangio tank to feed to my botia's and the population is forever increasing so I shouldn't think theres to much munching going on by the pangios.

I don't think that mine eat snails, at least not that I've noticed. I have many pond snails in their tank, and a big mystery snail lives happily with them.

I've not actually seen them eat per se, but mine have carried the MTS in my tank around a bit.

I think mine do a credible job on eggs and baby snails, and eventually even the adult snails were gone, but was that from old age? Or did the Kuhlies finally do them in?

I never see my pond snail population increase in the pangio tank but there are a couple medium sized snails at most all the time.

Thanx Everybody! Seems like a mix inclined toward --not eating snails much or doing much population damage. I have red ramshorns that I would like to keep, but it's not that big of a deal either way. Thinking about getting a school of kuhli's....

I keep brigs, nertites and 'bumblebee' snails with mine. No problem with the bigger snails, and I have khulis and p. anguillaris.
I've had pond and tiny ramshorns in my tank, but they haven't lasted - not sure who eats them though.

Hi,
I my self have not seen my Pangos eat snails in person. But I know I have had 2 tanks overly stocked with pond snails and two days after the Pangos where add there where no snails left. So that leaves me wondering. And the same with the Botia histrionica. Mine 4 also cleaned out a 50 gallon of snail.

Just so every one knows I don't just force the Loaches to eat snails. They have a varied diet off all sorts.

I have several types of Kulies, and I didn't think they had an interest in snails. I have bunches of MTS and red ramshorns. And yesterday I looked in mytank and a pangio oblongas had his entire head stuck in a snail. Shows me.
