Hi!
I was at friends house yesterday and he had the Loach book (great book!!!!).

But the pics of Histrionica was very different in colour, than any Histrionica I`ve ever seen before. Including my own.

Can anyone out there inform me of the rason for this?

(Sorry if this has been asked/answered before, but I couldn`t find it when I did a search)

No. But that won`t really answer my question. I have no reason to doubt that it is a Histrionica in the Loach book, but I`m wondering if the pic is of a fish from any particular location and why this is used as a description in the book. It`s not a typical Histrionica as far as I can find out. Incl the pics in the species index here on LOL

But I still havent figured out how to do that here on Loaches.

Is it the one on page 116? I think this is a stock photo from Aqua Press. TFH would only buy a certain number of images from us, we had loads of great shots which they chose not to use. I would say that the B. histrionica on page 116 is partially in shadow, which may make it appear darker/golder than it is. Many juvenile B. histrionica show these bold black stripes, but body colour can vary from white, to grey, to golden.

Yes it`s the one on page 116.
Not a typical Histrionica, found in the shops, in my humble opinion

Actually, I think that shot is certainly one of the best of the stock pics used by TFH in the book. It also looks just like the histis I have had. There is quite a bit of variation in this species, though, so I am not surprised it doesn't look like ones you have seen. I had a large female some time ago, that actually kept most of that color and markings into adulthood. She was a beauty.

If it is a normal specimen, how come none of the photos in the species index resembles anything like it?

I just said it looked like ones I have had. If I could get photobucket to work right now, I would post a pic to show you.

I don't really think there is a 'Normal' colour for this species. They are varied either by age, locality, diet and many other factors. You also have to look at the lighting on the tank, type of media used to capture, Computer touch up etc.

My batch of Histies all came from the same shipment but I can't guarantee they are all from the same source but the variation in colouring and pattern is noticeable. One of my usual pattern fish is Golden and an almost identical patterned fish is more cream coloured.
