Price of Botia kubotai

For the last few months I have been waiting for Botia kubotai to show up on the availability list at the pet store where I work. At last they have appeared! However the 'cost' value of these is $11.99!!!! That puts them at roughly $50.00 retail. So I was just wondering what the rest of the world pays for these?

P.S.For a little background info I guess I should say that I am located in Regina, Saskatchewan. The store is a Petland  .... I know, I know, a terrible place but during the University semesters and between summer jobs at least its a paycheck and easy access to fish  .

Thanks

the price will depend on the size of them, do you know what sizes are on the order sheet?.

where i am in the north of England, a young one of 1 1/2 inches will cost around £3-4, i bought some very large ones from my mates shop and they were i think it was £ 16. medium sized fish would be around £8-10 each.
but prices vary all over the UK.

I beleive these would be roughly 3 or 4 inches accoding to the supplier. How does the British Pound compare to the Canadian Dollar at present?

Thanks and my apologies for not checking myself. I am as we speak studying for a genetics midterm as well as a Quaternary ecology midterm so I thought it best not to mix in economics ha ha!

Don't be ashamed of working at Petland. Its good to have "infiltrators" who will actually give fish buyers the proper info. You are doing a good service.
Here in my area of the US, kubotai tend to run about $12-$15. I have seen them for much higher than that on occasion, though.

By the way, I used to have family in Regina. They moved up there from Bengough.

OK, thanks for the replies Mick and Helen. I think I will hold off on these this time as the price seems a little high. I will focus on expanding my B. histronica group instead. I currently have 7 of these (with 6 Barilius barna and a few Garra sp.) and I can find them once in a wile for roughly half the price of the kubotai.

The booming city of Bengough haha! I test net a few reservoirs near there through my summer job with fisheries as well as hunt Mule deer around there once in a wile. I do try my best to give good advice at the store especially when it comes to Loaches and I do have a few of the Loaches Online posters up in the isles. Do you see B. kubotai often south of the border Jim? The seem to be impossible to find in Saskatchewan or even western Canada.

They are fairly common.

Well $12-$15 is quite a bit cheaper than $50.00, perhaps the price reflects there rarilty in stores here. Thanks all once again for the speedy replies!

My local PETSMART has them most of the time for $9.99 US. The LFS that I frequent charges $13.99. The shops I've been to in Seattle are about the sam. Size is whatever they happen to get and doesn't seem to affect the price. Lately they seem to be very small and many still have stripes like histrionicas. I did manage to get a few nice big ones, 3 inches or so, from PETSMART recently. Have you looked at aquabid?
