Breeding Kuhli loaches

Hi! I have a question. I have had kuhli for years, and have never had them bred before until now. I was shocked a few weeks ago when doing my weekly tank maintence to find baby kuhli's! I've had 3 adults since august. They are the "black" kukli's. is this something thats normal for them? what else gets me is that they are in pretty high PH level ,have been since day one and they are fine. The Ph comes out of my tap around 7.8 to 8.0! More on that later,I want to see what everyone has to say about my babies. They are almost 1/2" now and everyday more come out. They are starting to stay out in the open a little longer so hopefully I can get a better count.everytime I get to 7, they all move and I get all mixed up LOL!

Congratulations!!!!! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Could you please tell me what kind of substrate is in your tank and what other tank mates, if any.
We'd love to see pictures!

Congrats, that's so exciting. I have 8 blacks in a tank with a few ember tetras and I'm hoping to see some fry someday. That's if the eggs make it past the embers that is.

Thank you everyone. They are in a tank with 7 platies , 4 mollies, and 2 cories. they arent on sand but are on good size gravel.Today I counted 11 babies.I can try and take some picture's.If I do,I'll post them. Here is a picture of the tank,but not a close up.
***Edit*** I'm sorry the picture's are so small.I'll try to find some bigger ones

Found some bigger pics. the 1st pic. has my bubble light on.You can kind of see the size of the rock.They have no trouble getting in/under them.Even the newborn fish go in the rocks to hide.I dont like the gravel size but its all the had in that color at the time I set the tank up.and I know they like sand better,thats the thing.....the set up they are in is all "wrong" for them from the gravel to the PH but for the first time ever,they bred! Weird,also all my books said they were difficult to bred??

Thank you for the pictures and the information about your tank. I recently acquired some black kuhlis, and I'm hoping they will spawn someday. I've set up their tank so that it has both large gravel and sand. The gravel is at the front of the tank, and the sand is across the back half of the tank.
I was curious to know what your tank mates were since I'm pretty sure that I read somewhere that the hormones in the water from livebearers can induce other fish to spawn. I have to do some googling to see where I read that. From the pictures of Richard Bias's fry, I'm pretty sure he had livebearers in his tank. And I think
capeldrae had guppies in his tank. So, just to be on the safe side, I've got guppies in my tank, too.
Now, I have to just wait and see what happens.

Loachmum,
Sorry but no live bearers in tank, but I do have gravel, and I think that is at least one of the keys, as it allows the eggs protection from being eaten.
