Spotted Sewellia

Remember this chap that turned up in a previous batch of
Sewellia lineolata from Vietnam? (currently in our River Tank).....
At the time, the supplier apologised (

) for sending it by mistake, and said they thought it was a type of
Beaufortia found in a similar location. Well, I mentioned that I would be happy to purchase a larger quantity if they were able to source them, and 2 weeks ago, they came up with the goods!

......
At the time of ordering, they had them listed as '
Sewellia special', but when we were actually invoiced afterwards, they listed them as being
Beaufortia leveretti
Observing them, they seem to behave very simialrly to
Sewellia lineolata, and the body shape is very similar too, just slightly broader. When the light catches them, they have gorgeous golden reflective areas, such as near where the base of their dorsal and other fins meet the body.
Whatever they are, they are really beautiful hillstream loaches.

Heheh! They still managed to charge
Sewellia prices, even if they listed them as
Beaufortias!
I'm still waiting for an opportunity to get a shot of the underside of one of these, but they seem to be evading the front and side glass at the moment.

It'll be interesting to compare the mouth to that of
Sewellia and
Beaufortia.

Eh, guess what..... Momfish was in Harold's today buying a 14W lamp for her X-ray reader. He told her that he's getting in Pangio doriae,..... at least, that was my interpretation of the info he gave her.

Martin - fingers crossed for the
P. doriae!
Gary - they're going on sale from today, let me know if you want any reserved, just in case. (I
think they are at similar price to the standard
Sewellia, but I'll have to double check that).
Jim - I think you'll just have to emigrate to England!!!

those pictures are great - they are making me tempted to get another tank
do they have the same huge amount of character that the botia do, and do they know when you are looking at them?

Excellent, you got that elusive underside shot!!!
And before anyone worries uneccessarily, the spotted variety have naturally pink bellies.
Emma
p.s. Helen - yes, these chaps have character all right! Very different to
Botia, but absolutely fascinating to watch. Have a read of Martin's article here which explains about setting up a river tank:
