Hi,
I am thinking of getting one each of these, will the Clown loaches eat it?

i would really only use javafern as botia have this annoying habit of tearing the moss to pieces which eventually will clog your filter inlets.
the fern is very tough and although they will punch holes in it, the fern comes back very quick.

Only small - about 2.5 inches.

I agree with mick. I would only go with the java fern.

Thanks for replys, didn't get the java moss, got the java fern and also 2 different types of anubias, will the anubias be OK?

The anubias depends on how your loaches behave. I have it in both my loach tanks and it does fine, no problems. I've heard of others having a really hard time with their loaches poking holes in it, so like I said it depends on your loaches personalities.

TIe your fern to some bogwood to give it something to grab ahold of.

my yoyos ripped some mature anubias to shreads - it became lots of floating plants

but they havent mananged to do any damage to jave fern.

if you like the look of the anubias, its worth a try, as long as you are aware it may not last very long

Cheers guys!! I probably will try the anubias when they have attached themselves to bogwood (I am keeping them in a separate plant tank) at least the java fern might last!!

stick with the java fern
you don't want java moss (well your filter intakes don't want it!)
I had gotten rid of java moss about two years ago and what did I just find recently...a little strand of java moss.
In a 55 gallon with 4 mature SAE who are know to eat it. One java moss is introduced it is very difficult to get rid of it!
ONce those clowns get bigger though (5ish inches) your java fern will be torn to shreds!

I had a java fern for a while, clowns didn`t destroyed it, so from my own experience, I recommend java fern.

If you can keep Anubias attached to bogwood near the surface of the tank and let it grow out of the water to some extent, the Clowns will leave alone and the Anubias does a lot better too. Plus it looks great growing just above and below the water surface if you don't mind dropping the water level just a little.
Doesn't show very well in this picture but these Anubias you can see above water level had three or four times as many smaller leaves below the water
