I just lost my oldest loach today. He was a 6.5 year old, 3.5 inch Scistura scaturgina. He has been through the ups and downs of that tank and seen the birth of many baby hillstreams (and maybe sampled a few

) and always made me laugh with his goofy behavior.
Here is a pic of him in better days:

I am sorry for your loss Jim. 6.5 years is a long time for a loach in captivity....
he was quite a specimen!

Condolences.... Beautiful fish.
He probably lived much longer than he could have done anywhere else. Hope you'll be able to locate a replacement(s).
It is probably a bad moment to ask, but is there a confusion between Shistura scaturigina and Noemacheilus scaturigina somewhere out there? (for example, on LOL pages)?

So sorry to hear about your loss, Jim.

That fish was a magnificent looking specimen.

You should be proud that you cared for him so well - 6.5 years is a good age.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Jim.
A fine specimen and I'm sure a fine 6yrs of his life in your care.

Oh Jim, this is tough to hear. I always thought that fish was a fantastic specimen. I didn't realize that you had it that long.
I'll go along with everyone else's estimation that your good care caused it to have such a long life.
Martin.

Sorry Jim. He had a gun run at it, though, and a fine keeper to watch out for him.

Thanks everyone. The only time I ever saw this fish (being sold as darios) I ended up buying two for my newly set up river tank. The other one died a few years ago, but this one became one of my favorities. I guess the name "dario" came from one of the local names for this species which is "dari"..I guess its just another messed up loach trade name.
But , with this bad news, I will be posting what should be VERY good news if all goes well early next week
