Loaches Online Forum

Seems to be a feature, does anyone else find the same?

I am no expert because i am new to loaches but from what i remember reading here the older they get the more docile they become.?
Anyone want to correct me.?

I've always thought it was that they get more cautious as they get older. They certainly don't spend as much time up front as smaller ones.

Mines do the same... I only get to see them just when the sun is about to set and thats the time i feed them. The bigger loach (about 7 inches) only comes out at almost the end of feeding and it is still skiddish when it sees someone approaching. Gah its kinda irratating that they are soo shy...

maybe its because theyre bigger and they know its harder for them to hide their larger size...?

the young have (seemingly) limitless energy which fades as one ages.

this is also a good reason not to get all of your tanks long term loaches at the same time.

One of my largest, Amazing Grace, rarely hides. Most of the other larger ones do though.

I always wondered this too. It is interesting, all the reasons and the perspective of other loach keepers. I think too is they are not as young and curious but wise and cautious. Afterall, the large loaches are quite a catch for dinner in their parts of the world. They definitley don't become more docile but more agressive as thet get bigger.

Agreed.

My 3 bigger loaches (7", 7" an 8") spend more time hiding than showing among smallers but when they show up all rest of the group comes along.
