I have two female clowns with their tubes down again. The odd thing is I only noticed because I was preparing for our fish show. One is at the show and one still home. I wanted to know what people thing would be a good setup up to try and breed them in. I can now pick out the two females and I'm pretty certain I know who a male is. I think the males are longer and skinny and females are more round. The two females are a no brainer as they have their tubes down. As for now I have 22 in a 180 but I was thinking of giving three of them a new home to see if I could get something to happen. So I have a 55g I could try them out in for awhile and see if I could spawn them, so give me some ideas on how to set it up.

I live in Winnipeg Canada our water here is very close to neutral so I only fear if I need to do something to trigger the male.

I REALLY hope you'll be able to breed them. That would be so awesome!

I was wondering what the ovipositor of a clown looks like. I only caught pictures mayself on otocynclus. I googled and found the excelent pictures from Marion at an Austrian fish forum. Scrolling down shows the genital papillae of the female and on the right top a male with tubercles.

Well I plan on trying a setup with a false bottom so if eggs are laid that they will fall through and the parents can't eat them. I will attempt this with in the next few days to set up the tank, and add some flow to it.

Would be interested in seeing a photo of the clowns next time this happens.
Best wishes,
