Always wanting to make things easier I came accross this article on how to make a DIY Python Siphon.

One thing I noted at the end of the article when the author is refilling the aquarium. She puts the water conditioner directly into her Aquarium and then adds water from the tap into the aquarium. I always mix the water into buckets then put the mixed water back into the aquarium.

My question is. Would adding water this way harm the fish ie conditioner into aquarium then straight tap water in after?

I use a modified Python Siphon. I hand siphon water out and then use Python Siphon to add water. While the water is running into the tanks is when I add Prime. I guess the amount of water I took out and count two drops of Prime per gallon of water.

I have a well so my water isn't chlorinated. But I have two friends who siphon out their water then add water conditioner for the amount of water removed. Then refill.

Works fine.

Not a problem. When I can, I direct fill from the tap and add dechlor into the flow from the hose. Dose about enough for the whole tank.

(20 gallon tank, 25% refill, I add enough dechlor for 17 gallons 'cause that is how the dropper measures it.)

Like Diana I add the dechlorinator to the flow from the hose, although I only dose enough for the amount of water I'm replacing.
